Cookie Discovery
Is there a snack bar in the BIO5 building? I walked by there recently, and it looked as if it had one. But it also looked closed--or, more accurately, not in business yet. I was just curious about it, since I work close to that building and am always interested in new food options within walking distance. Does anyone know when it's supposed to open?

Please help. My cat has gone missing from my home. She is a 17 year old, declawed, calico cat.

Her name is Anaria (pronounced ahnaireeah). If you see her, please pick her up and call me immediately. I will come right away to pick her up. She is a friendly and very talkative cat (if you meow at her, she will often meow back at you). She will sometimes give kisses if you put your hand out to her.

Call me, Brandy, at 520-370-9552.

Thank you

20th-Jun-2008 06:24 pm - LGBTQ Tucson?
Hello everyone,

I am a rising undergrad senior who is looking into applying for Ph.D programs in the fall. I want to do Women's Studies / Gender Studies with the goal of becoming a college professor, and I've realized through my research that the University of Arizona as well as Arizona State both have some of the best programs in the country.

What I want to know is, with Arizona being a red state overall and all that, how liberal is Tucson, and more specifically / to the point, how is the LGBTQ [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer] community? Is the surrounding area very homophobic / hostile? I know that society at large is, but as a Californian who attends college in western Massachusetts and who also is a lesbian with a fiancee who is a huge part of my life [obviously], I really want to know what I'm getting myself into before I move to Arizona with her. Any input you could give me, even if it's anecdotal, would be *greatly* appreciated. I'm also going to post this to a few other communities [A Tucson community, an ASU one, a Phoenix one, etc.].

Thanks so much in advance for your time!

This party was rediculous, I'm sharing this video so people can see what the U of A can do at it's craziest.

don&#39;t even ask
I apologize in advance for joining the community just to advertise mine, but I think it is relevant and I would love to have some Wildcat presence in mine, that being said...

I just created pac_10_sports for all of us who are Pac-10 sports fans. Come join us in talking about our teams in the best conference in the country, even if you just want to talk trash to the rest of us, it's all good.

P.S. - I also apologize for using an icon that showed the ASU Sun Devil, but it's just my Pac-10 icon (obviously).
4th-Dec-2007 12:12 pm - UA Arts and Crafts fair!
I realize that it's a drop in the bucket compared to the 4th ave fair. . .but the UA will be having a Holiday Arts and Crafts fair this Friday on the mall!  It will be from 9am-2pm and features UA students, faculty/staff, and alums.  I /think/ the regular farmer's market will be happening at the same time, so you should stop by to check out some local art and produce!  It's held on the western side of the mall, next to the student union.  I'll have a table there with some fellow art students, and we'll be selling prints and postcards (you can see my stuff here: flickr.com/photos/evil_holls).  I hope people will have a chance to stop by!!!  If you need any more info, you can write me or contact Gale Welter at health and wellness, who is in charge of the fair: welter@health.arizona.edu.
28th-Nov-2007 10:46 pm - roommate wanted!
Jim and Pam gigglin&#39;
My roommate and I need to find a third to live in our 3BR house just north of the UA. We'd like a female grad student (like us!) who's pretty chill, responsible, and independent. $408/mo plus utilties, usually less than $50/mo but around $80 in the summer. We want someone from January til July 31st, but could discuss other options. Our house is awesome -- 3 bedrooms/2 bath, full kitchen, dining room, spacious living room, large front and back yard. Swamp cooler. It's less than a mile from the UA and it's an easy bike ride/walk, and near the Mt. bike lane. We'd like to find someone who wants to move in around middle to the end of January. Of course, it would be great if we could meet you and see if it would be a good fit before you move in. If you're interested, drop me a line here or at brown.h.b@gmail.com. thx!
19th-Oct-2007 01:04 pm - cactus grill
roy was lucky
I think the people who work at the cactus grill are just the most miserable human beings.  Does anybody work there?  Is it really THAT bad?  I'm not talking about the cooks and servers, they seem fine.  But the loathing the cashiers feel for their customers is palpable.  Is it too much to ask that you stop text messaging when three customers line up at your register?  That you maybe say hello, or thank you, or have a nice day?  You can just mumble it, you don't have to mean it.  I get that working at a cafeteria isn't exactly the most rewarding job in the world.  But everytime I've been there I feel like they would all rather stab me in the face with a fork than ring up my order.  Yeesh.  Has anyone else had this experience?

Also. . .the thai peanut sauce = grossness.  that is the end of my rant.
13th-Oct-2007 02:52 pm - Just Got IN
I just got into University of Arizona as  a Pre-Architecture Major, and i was wondering if anyone knows if most pre-arch students live in the Manzanita- Mohave housing for fine arts or if people live in a bunch of differnt dorms?

Thanks a lot!

Performance of More Secrets: The Thing You Swore You Would Never, Ever Tell
Anyone! by the Odyssey Storytellers.

PostSecret is a worldwide community art project started by Frank Warren in
November 2004. He invited strangers he encountered throughout Washington DC
to write down and illustrate a secret anonymously on a blank post card and
mail it to him. The secret had to be true, and it had to be something that
had never been shared with another person. Over three years and 100,000
secrets later, PostSecret has become an international phenomenon.

The Union Gallery will present an exhibit of original PostSecret cards from
November 2 to December 15, 2007. We invite all members of the UA and Tucson
community to contribute their own cards. Drop boxes will be available in the
Student Union Memorial Center, the Center for Student Involvement and
Leadership, Campus Health, and the School of Art. Be creative -- let the
card be your canvas! All cards collected at the UA will be exhibited in the
Union Gallery.

8th-Jul-2007 10:24 pm - desk for sale -- $80
me and lauren
cross posted onto tucson.

I am selling a great computer desk. I just bought it from someone, but have a friend who has a desk for me. The bottom shelf slides out for a keyboard or extra space, then there are two different layers on top for more storage. it is in great shape with just the teensiest show of wear. Right now it is disassembled, so it can easily be moved in a car (3 wooden pieces, 3 metal). I'm asking $80 or best offer. . .if you want it, please make an offer, because I'd like to get rid of it within the week! Leave a comment or e-mail brown.h.b@gmail.com. thanks a bunch.<br clear="all" />

Hey, everyone, glad to see someone is picking up the LJ U of A slack!  What ever happened to the old group?

Anyway, here's a question.  Does anyone know if, as a student, you can have a non-student UA job during the school year?  Right now I work part-time for the museum, and they want to keep me on at 10 hours a week when I start school.  But lately I have been having absolute HR nightmares about switching myself from an employee to a student, and now I'm paranoid they're going to throw a fit about me holding a non-student position.  As a side note, is there an HR department specifically FOR students that I could go talk to?  I should practically know them all by name by now, but you know how these things go :)
